PAINTING RETREAT WITH LELAND NEFF
Spring @ The Waterfall House + Painting Retreat
4 DAY PAINTING RETREAT ON LOCATION IN BEAUTIFUL SCHOHARIE VALLEY, NY
START DATE: JUNE 12 END DATE: JUNE 15
Join Leland Neff for a fun filled weekend of painting and learning the fundamentals of painting on location and further those with experience. Starting with discussions on an overview of painting on location, or "plein air", how to plan a painting, composition, times of day, sketches, to drawing, laying out colors, preparing the paint, and color theory as well as techniques of painting.
Guidance and demonstrations are made throughout each step of the process with an emphasis on techniques giving the student an arsenal for one's own artistic expression. Schoharie Valley, NY, the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi, has endless unspoiled landscapes of forests, meadows, hills, rivers, crops, farms, livestock to use as inspiration for landscape painting in the vein of the great masters like George Inness, and the Hudson River School.
Accommodation is in the gentile, magical Waterfall House with poetic elegance. The victorian inn dating from 1852 overlooks the western Catskills. The Kenhuragara Falls can be heard from most rooms in the house a sound that's been known to lull you to the sweetest, deepest sleep imaginable. With a huge "Great Hall" on the second floor, a "Dance Hall" on the ground floor, and a period bar and adjoining game room providing a country elegance with chandeliers, velvet wallpaper of a bygone era.
Locations: Leland the Farm is a 150 acre working horse breeding and training farm. Schoharie Creek surrounds the 90 acre horse field permitting a quiet, private setting of an undeveloped natural landscape of river, valley, mountains, pastures, and horses. On the farm there are historic post and beam barns as well as an almost 200 year old greek revival farm house. The valley provides vistas, waterfalls, state forests, and the valley itself called the "Breadbasket of the Revolution."
